Team Farmington

Team Farmington Special Olympics is a non-profit, year-round sports training program that is open to all athletes who qualify for special needs services and who live in Farmington/Farmington Hills, Michigan and surrounding communities. Team Farmington is a local branch of Special Olympics Oakland County. Team Farmington was formed in the 1980s.

Many sports programs are offered, including: alpine skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, basketball, bowling, poly hockey, soccer, softball, swimming, track and field and golf.  Each sport has a minimum of eight weeks training prior to the athletes competing at local, regional and state levels.

Team Farmington provides practices, training and competitions for our athletes, hosts local competitions and is involved in area invitational tournaments and competitions.

Team Farmington currently serves close to 150 athletes and has more than 40 volunteer coaches who provide practice, training and competitions for our athletes.

Special Olympics, created in 1968 by the Joseph P. Kennedy Jr. Foundation, evolved into an international program of sports training and competition for children and adults who are mentally challenged or have a related disability. The Special Olympics program develops and strengthens the mental, physical and social wellbeing of every athlete who participates. Special Olympics calls this “training for life.”
